Reclaimer 105 is about the intersection of two things- theology and video games. Our culture presents messages and values to us through many mediums, and video games have come into their own as a popular means telling stories and conveying worldviews. The goal of Reclaimer 105 is to seek the truth of the Creator behind the messages we’re presented and to look for the shadows that God’s ultimate reality casts on the sub-culture of nerd-dom and video games.
This blog has been titled “Reclaimer 105” for two reasons:
1. In the Halo games, the protagonist, Master Chief, is referred to many times by the Forerunner monitors as “the Reclaimer.” This concept of reclaiming truth from somewhere deeper and greater is a major influence on the purpose of this blog.
2. “105” is a reference to the verse 2 Corinthians 10:5, which states the command for us to “take every thought captive to obey Christ.” In other words, the messages we’re told by our culture should be carefully examined to see how they relate to the one true message that comes from our Creator. This idea is a call to not mindlessly accept the values and worldviews we’re handed, but to seek out the truth. Thus the tagline, “Reclaiming the mind from ‘mindless’ gaming.” If you would like a little more explanation about this, check out the “Theology of Reclaimer 105″ page.
This site will talk a lot about Jesus and for that there is no apology. However, the goal of this blog is that gamers of all faiths and beliefs would visit to discuss the posts on various games. This site is by no means intended to bash people over the head with Christian doctrine. Yes, there will be lots of talk about Jesus and Christianity, but please don’t let that deter you from engaging in the comments or reading the posts. You are free to share your thoughts and beliefs and you are welcome, even obligated to voice your disagreements if applicable.
But please don’t just troll either, ’cause nobody likes a troll. A strict anti-jerk policy will be enforced for all who participate, so please disagree respectfully.
